Urban Violence in Maputo Over Disputed Election
Mozambique
Mozambican police fired on opposition supporters marching in the capital Maputo, injuring at least 10 people, after opposition leader Venancio Mondlane was excluded from talks aimed at ending months of protests over President Daniel Chapo’s disputed election victory. The agreement signed with some political parties is expected to do little to stabilize the resource-rich Southern African country since Mondlane’s exclusion means widespread dissatisfaction continues.
